Roatan-Villa Posada
One of our more interesting projects is the design of a self-sustaining residential development on the island of Roatan, 20 miles off the northern coast of Honduras. The island has very limited public utilities, and each development must be able to stand on its own during the common occurrence of rolling blackouts.
We are designing 40 homes that will be energy-efficient and powered through the energy harnessed from an array of solar panels. Each home will have its own array that will be designed to provide all the energy required for day-to-day living. Each home’s panels are then connected, creating a small grid that serves our specific development, and each will benefit from the common energy stored for times of inclement weather or blackouts.
The structural system is poured-in-place concrete, used for its hurricane resistant strength, as well as its insulation characteristics. Check in for updates to this exciting once-in-a-lifetime project!
